Interview with Casey Miller : Journey of a Professional Blogger : eAskme |
Q : Please share about yourself and your story to enter in blogging?
One day I decided to start my own personal training business and thought that blogging would bring me more clients. This wasn't really the case as I didn't know much about marketing or search engine optimization (SEO). I started creating post on every fitness topic that I knew about and even was allowed to post a blog on our city's newspaper website. This sounded great, more exposure but I was wasting lots of time creating multiple blogs, which I thought I had to do.
After taking a break and learning more about how to create a successful blog, I am now back and things have been quite different. I am now getting traffic and creating pretty good blogs compared to others. I have learned a strategy that has made my blogging and content promotion a lot easier and I am finding my fitness blogging a lot more fun.
Blogging is not easy if you don't know where to start. Take your time and learn how to promote your blog before creating lots of content and only create content that people will actually read.
Q. How the idea to make your own blog came in your mind? How you found the right people to develop it and what big obstacles you faced?
Ans: It was easy for me to start a blog about fitness because that was what I knew. The hard part was trying to figure out how to create it. At the time, my brother was creating websites, so I did receive some help from him but everything else was trial and error. My first website was just html based and I learned how to make changes using visual studio. It wasn't easy at first but I got the hang of it.
Since WordPress was brand new to me and still is, I have had some issues but overall it's a great platform and easy to use. There are lots of plugins you can use but using too many or the wrong ones can hinder your sites performance. When I need help, I typically ask an SEO Facebook group questions about which plugins to use and how to fix certain issues mainly because we have all had them.
Throughout my time blogging, I have had many issues but this is because I try to learn and do everything myself. It's a lot more time consuming but worth it in the long run.
Ans:I truly believe that blogging can change someone's life but it takes a lot of work. At first, you will probably have to spend a couple years learning how to do things and start getting traffic if you're creating this yourself. Even if you hire someone to help with your content creation, marketing and SEO, there is still no guarantee that your blog will become successful.
Q. What are your favorite Internet marketing tools?
Ans: Currently my favorite tools are Aherfs and Beacon.by.

Q. What is your daily schedule? And how do you maintain your tasks?
Ans: My daily schedule starts with me waking up an hour earlier everyday so I can start working on the task that I have laid out for the week. I'm trying to create a better blog schedule but it seems you always get behind due to emails, website issues, etc.
My typical Monthly Schedule:
Week 1: Content creation 1-2 hours daily
Week 2-4 Content promotion 1-2 hours daily
Repeat
Once you have your blog started and have a couple great post, you can start to spend less time creating content and more time promoting it.
Ans : Blogging to me is writing content that helps people in one way or another. My website is fitness based that talks about different exercise programs and sells fitness programs that can help people with a certain goal.
Most websites are just blogs that promote products but without a blog I don't think you can have a great website. A blog is not just one page of information, it ask a question and solves a problem.
So to me, a blog is just another term for a website that has a purpose and my purpose is to help people learn about fitness and hopefully help them achieve their goals.
Q. Which are your favorite blogs?
Ans: Currently I only have one blog that I will go to and look at and that is Backlinko.com . I do end up looking at multiple blogs throughout the day/week but this is more for content creation and promotion. If I had more time, I would find more blogs to follow.
Q. How much time do you spend on social media promotion and SEO of your blog?
Ans: I have found most of my time on spent on SEO. This is because without traffic you have no blog. If you look online for your favorite topics you will see a lot of low quality content high in the rankings and this is because of SEO and other factors but not because the content is the best.
Q. How much time do you spend for blogging daily?
Ans: I always try to work 1-2 hours everyday on my website/blog but somedays with be a lot more and other less. This just all depends on my day. I find that even 10 minutes a day can go a long ways compared to taking the day off. The time adds up in the long run.
Q. Finally, I would love to have your message for my readers and any suggestions for newbies?
Ans: Blogging takes time for most and if your goal is to generate money then be patient but don't give up. Sometimes you might need to start over with a new idea but you have learned so much from the first. Use those things you have learned and carry the good to your new blog and don't forget why you started blogging.
Q : What do you like about eAskme and how it can be more helpful for readers?
Ans : eAskme has lots of information about blogging such as content creating and promotion which are the two keys to creating a great blog. The only problem I have is I don't have enough time to read all the information to help improve my blog and have it become more successful in the future.
