Interview With Eric Brantner : Journey of a Professional Blogger : eAskme |
Q : Please share about yourself and your story to enter in blogging?
For nearly a decade, I focused exclusively on my freelance writing business, and I had a number of clients whose blogs I managed. Blogging has always been my favorite type of writing as it allows for direct interaction with readers and is just more intimate and personal than many other forms of business writing.
More recently, I've moved away from client work and focused my time solely on building up my own blogs. I run several blogs in a variety of niches. Some of my blogs get nearly a million hits a month, mostly from organic search traffic. They've also been featured in USA Today, Time, MSN, TechCrunch, Fortune, and other top publications. Ive also run a copywriting and marketing business for the past decade. I've now launched Scribblrs.com, a site where I share my experiences and tips for those looking to start a blogging business.
Q. How the idea to make your own blog came in your mind? How you found the right people to develop it and what big obstacles you faced?
Ans. I've always found that the blog ideas I've had the most success with come from my personal experiences. For example, one of my sites, CutCableToday.com was born out of my passion for getting rid of cable TV and using streaming services like Netflix and Sling TV. My latest blog venture, Scribblrs, was created as an outlet for me to share all of the experiences I've had and lessons I've learned over the last decade as a blogger. These blogs are based on things I live and breathe every day and am truly passionate about, which allows me to stay committed and excited about growing them.
Certainly, there have been some obstacles along the way. Growing a team of talented writers and developers to execute our vision and expand our reach has taken a lot of work, but it has allowed us to create more content faster, greatly shortening the timeline to achieving our benchmarks.
Ans: Absolutely, blogging can change your life. Whether you blog as a hobby or as a business, it's a powerful medium that offers endless possibilities and a host of benefits. Even if you're just blogging to get something off of your chest, it's a great form of therapy, typing out your thoughts and putting them out there. If you're doing it as a business, blogging is a great way to work from home and truly build a business from the ground up. There's no limit to the level of success you can achieve if you work hard and have a great game plan.
Q. What are your favorite Internet marketing tools?
Ans: For me, CoSchedule is my favorite tool at the moment. It's a blog calendar and marketing tool that helps you plan out your content and promote it as efficiently and effectively as possible. Coschedule integrates with WordPress making it easy to plan, create, and publish posts, and it also ties into your social media accounts, letting you automatically promote your new content to get it as much traffic as possible.

Q. What is your daily schedule? And how do you maintain your tasks?
Ans : For me, blogging is about sharing your thoughts, passion, and creativity with people all across the world. But it's more than just telling everybody what you think or trying to educate your readers about a particular topic; it's about conversation. The interactive element of blogging is one of the things I love most about it. You can get instant feedback from your readers in the comments of your posts or on Twitter and Facebook when you interact with them. This is a crucial, beautiful part of the blogging process, and it inspires me to continue my journey as a blogger on a daily basis.
Q. Which are your favorite blogs?
Ans: I have a number of blogs I follow very closely and read on a daily basis. Some of them include:
- Moz--Without a doubt, the Moz blog is the authority on all things SEO and online marketing. You won't get the same rehashed fluff you see so often on other SEO blogs. These are true experts who are dedicated to the science of SEO and who have useful insights you won't find elsewhere.
- Social Media Examiner--There's a lot of conflicting advice out there about social media marketing, but Social Media Examiner cuts through the noise and provides easy to understand, actionable advice.
Q. How much time do you spend on social media promotion and SEO of your blog?
Ans. Basically all of my time these days is spent on SEO and promoting our blogs. You can have the best content in the world, but if nobody sees it, who cares. I spend a ton of time using Moz, Google Webmaster Tools, and other SEO tools to ensure our content is optimized as best as possible for the search engines. I also am very active in building relationships with industry influencers to help get our sites as much attention as possible.
Q. How much time do you spend for blogging daily?
Ans. Currently, less of my time is spent actually writing posts (I manage a team of excellent writers) and more on the SEO and promotion side of things. That said, I do still blog regularly and I'm a recurring guest contributor on many sites, helping get my name and our sites out there for greater exposure.
Q. Message for Readers?
Q. What do you like about eAskme and how it can be more helpful for readers?
Ans. I like that eAskme covers a wide range of topics related to blogging, everything from blog design to making money with Adsense and a whole lot more. In particular, I enjoy that you incorporate these interviews with bloggers from all walks of life, who each have their own experiences and valuable lessons to share with readers.
