Meta's new transparency standards for Political and Social Issue Ads will apply in 2024.

It is not a must for an advertiser to disclose if he is using a digitally created asset on Meta ads for Social issues or political ads. It will help eliminate misinformation and false statements from audio, videos, and image assets.

Meta fact-checkers will also keep a vital check on every political ad or social issue ad to avoid misinformation in Meta ads.

The focus of this new policy is to let users know when they are watching an AI-altered ad or manipulated ad on social issues or political ads.

Facebook is receiving backlash for misinformation in advertisements. Some facebook ads also contain unrealistic photos, videos, and events.

Now, the Advertiser must disclose if he is using an altered image, video, or audio.

You need not to disclose in the following scenarios:

  • Image scaling
  • Image resizing
  • Color correction

Meta will also notice if the algorithm finds an altered ad running.

What happens if advertisers do not disclose information?

If an advertiser fails to comply with Meta ad policies, then his ads will get rejected, and he can also receive penalties.

Meta is strictly against misinformation and altered content to wrongly influence people.

A new policy will help Meta to control spam in ads.

The new ad policy will also ensure the ad displays authentic assets, including AI-generated assets.

Why is Disclosure necessary?

As I already said, by disclosing the altered images, text, and voice in ads, you let the user know that there are changes to the original content piece.

Also, it will help fact-checkers to check if the content complies with Meta policies or not.

Conclusion:

Transparency is necessary on social media platforms. Since AI tools can alter anything, It is essential to let the user know if he is watching actual or modified content.

It will also ensure that someone is not running an altered ad with misinformation for political gains. At the same time, it will also ensure that advertisers are not exploiting social issues for monetary gains.

I always prefer transparency on blogs, websites, and social media sites.
