Is BBB Rating a Google Search Ranking Factor or Not?

Have you ever considered BBB Rating a search ranking factor? Do you want to know if BBB Rating affects your organic ranking?

Google algorithm ranks pages based on 200 or more signals. But is BB rating part of these ranking signals?

Google has denied it multiple times. And here is what you must know!

First, understand what BBB rating is.

BBB, or the Better Business Bureau, ranks businesses based on trustworthiness. It is a non-government and non-profit organization.

BBB is the most trusted organization where customers can connect with different businesses.
BBB rating runs between A+ to F. Rating depends upon BBB's trust in a business.

The Better Business Bureau consider the following factors for BBB rating, such as;

  • The legality of the business.
  • Age of company.
  • Inaccurate claims or advertising issues.
  • Failures to honour the commitment.
  • Complaint History.
  • Government and licensing actions.

Businesses only get BBB recognition after meeting the various parameters and paying an annual fee.

BBB Rating is a Search Ranking Factor: Evidence

In 2018, when Google's algorithm dropped medical and health sites' ranking simultaneously, SEO experts noticed poor BBB ranking.

BBB and many other review and ranking sites are also mentioned in SEO groups and forums to display the website's trustworthiness.

Evidence: BBB Rating is not a Ranking Factor

Gary Illyes confirmed his doubt about BBB being a Google ranking factor.

John Mueller also said that Google does not take BB score or any other third-party score to measure the trustworthiness of a website.

Danny Sullivan also said that BBB ratings are not a ranking factor.

Conclusion: BBB Rating is not a Google Ranking Factor

Google believe in the trustworthiness and transparency of the website. Google has 200 ranking signals to measure the quality of the website, and BB ratings are not part of that system.

BBB ratings are also limited to USA, Canada, and Mexico. It is hard to believe third-party ratings with limited availability can affect Google rankings.

Yet it is good to get accreditation from the sites or businesses that Google trust.
