Verizon is selling Yahoo and AOL for $5 Billion to a private equity firm Apollo Global Management.

By selling Yahoo and AOL, Verizon will put its focus on other assets.

Even though Verizon is set to sell AOL and Yahoo, the company will hold a 10% stake even when the brand will be rebranded as Yahoo.

This also means that the other products under Yahoo and AOl shadows, such as Engadget, Yahoo Finance, and Techcrunch, will also go to Apollo.

Remember: Verizon has bought Yahoo for $4.5 billion and AOL for $4.4 billion.

Sources say that Verizon will get $4.25 billion in cash. This means that Verizon will lose more than $4 million but get a 10% stake in the business.

It seems that Verizon is trying to get rid of its media assets.

Note: Verizon sold Huffpost to Buzzfeed in 2020.

Verizon has purchased these businesses with the dream to take over the online advertising industry share of Google and Facebook.

Both Yahoo and AOl come under project Oath. But Oath failed severely. Later they rebranded Oath as Verizon Media Group, but still no success.

Now the Apollo wants to use these businesses to learn how to run each one of them.

It will be good to see how Yahoo and AOL grow under Apollo.

Who knows is you see growth or find them lost in the history of the internet?

Yahoo answers were the first massive service that gave the world “Ask me anything.”

But things are different now.

Yahoo has sold itself to Verizon Media Group for $5 billion in 2017. And since then, people have seen a lot of changes in the Yahoo platform.

After April 20th 2021, new registration for yahoo answers will not work.

The current Yahoo Answers users have the time till June 30th to request their data.

You may want to know why Yahoo is shutting down Yahoo answers.

Here is the answer.

Yahoo has declared that Yahoo Answers popularity decreased over the years. The lesser popularity is making the Yahoo team put Yahoo answers to rest for the future.

Because of this, Yahoo has decided to shift their resources to other popular services than Yahoo answers.

Conclusion:

Brands have a long history of taking down the products not popular or not in use anymore.

Yahoo Answers is also falling for similar reasons.

What do you think?

Yahoo Reportedly Testing New Mobile Search Interface

A Business Insider report says that Yahoo is testing a very new user interface for mobile search engine.

It is noticeable that this new interface will remove “Powered by Bing” branding, which used to appear on the bottom right of search.

This branding shows as  the result of deal between Yahoo and Bing in 2010. This deal was about Yahoo’s search business outsourced to Microsoft.

Technically, Yahoo and bing deal never included mobile search. So now Yahoo may intend to run its own mobile search  independently. It is also said that results will not be any different than they are at present.

Tis indicated that there is nothing hidden and changes are only in design. Business Insider report also said that Yahoo is working on its own mobile search engine.

Right now Yahoo has very small share of mobile search engine market. So is a a new test of Yahoo mobile pages without Bing branding, to see if it can bring some good results. Now the question is, why Yahoo suddenly remove Bing’s branding?
